OUR CHURCH/ OUR HISTORY
Bethesda Word of Life Christian Center was founded and chartered by Pastor John Melvin Jones and his wife, Janice D. Jones, on November 30, 1992. In the church's infant stages, home Bible studies were the avenues that God used to bring this ministry forth. These Bible studies spanned through the latter part of the 1980's; God saw Pastor Jones and the faithful band of followers loyalty and began to speak to Pastor Jones out of Proverbs 24:27 saying, "Prepare your work, and afterwards build the house." The church charter was received on December 16, 1992 at which time Bethesda Word of Life Christian Center came into reality.
Our official Sunday morning service was held in a home in South Memphis. Services continued there until God opened a door for us at Mid-South Christian College at 3097 Knight Road in Memphis, TN. The spacious facility allowed for the start of our youth ministry.
By way of a vision 3 years later, God directed Pastor Jones to a parcel of land on Orchi Road in Memphis, TN. that according to city records, had been vacant for 60 years. Purchase was made in 1994 and construction of our present facility began in 1995. The Ribbon cutting ceremony was held on November 17, 1996. Since that time God has blessed us to add classrooms, offices and a fellowship hall.
God is yet speaking to Pastor Jones heart for future developments. Indeed, "It's a New Season," for Bethesda Word of Life Christian Center!
